Winchester shipped approximately 500 recoil plates to NPM in 1942. (most parts were shipped together in groups, magazine catches with sears, etc) Here is some known shipments to National Postal Meter, how ever there could be more shipments that occurred that are unknown but this is a good reference. So don't get super disappointing if your Carbine is not all matching, its possible its exactly how it was when it left the factory!!! An example say Underwood was low on sears, Inland would ship some Sears to them. Just because its all matching doesn't necessary mean that is how it left the factory. ****** There is a difference between an all matching carbine and how it left the factory, a lot of M1 Carbine contractors shipped parts to other Contractors. All matching vs how it left the factory: Most people agree that NPM made the highest quality carbine even though they only made 4 of there parts and relied on a large number subcontractors to supply there parts. They did not begin shipping complete rifles until February 1943 and production did not speed up until April 1943, they had a slow start. The Government first issued contracts to NPM in 1942. So I'm not sure if these were ever issued or not. I've never heard of anyone owning one and I can't find any reliable resourced online. There were 239 replacement Carbines assembled by Commercial Controls from left over parts in June of 1944, These rifles were serialized from 0 - 239. Parts made directly by National Postal Meter: Bolts, Receivers, Trigger housings and slides (These parts will have revision numbers stamped on them, Example: N - 14) Barrel suppliers: Rock-Ola, I.B.M, Underwood, Buffalo Arms, Marlin and Winchester. Primary stock & hand guard supplier: Trimble Nursery and Furniture Co. Serial number blocks assigned by the government: M1 Carbines 413,017 (NPM, did not make the M2, M3, T3, or M1A1 Carbines)
